Job Role & Responsibilities
A Commercial Pilot’s job is to prepare for the flight, oversee the flight, and ensure the flight is completed to standard. This includes the following:
- Flight Planning: Determining flight routes and analyzing the weather and performance of the aircraft.
- Aircraft Inspection: Conducting pre and post flight checks as well as safety checks during the flight.
- Navigation & Operation: Controlling the aircraft and determining the best method for take off, cruise, and landing of the aircraft as well as following ATC directions.
- Emergency Management: Implementing safety and aviation protocols and professionally handling safety during emergencies.
- Crew Management: Collaborating with the co-pilot, cabin crew, ground crew, and all members of the crew to ensure that all flight operations are completed smoothly.
- Flight Records: Keeping documentation of the flight and aircraft maintenance.
It requires immense technical knowledge, situational responsiveness, and the ability to deliver results in tight time frames on a shift. The pilot should also possess deep knowledge of all current aviation legislation.
Required Qualifications & Skills
To work as a commercial pilot, candidates need to fulfill certain educational and professional requirements:
Education: At least 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics (Science stream). A graduate degree is preferred but not essential.
License: A Commercial Pilot License (CPL) issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India or an equivalent authority in the host country.

Salary of a Commercial Pilot in India

Entry-Level (0–2 years): ₹1.5 – ₹2.5 lakhs per month.
Mid-Level (3–7 years): ₹3 – ₹6 lakhs per month.
Senior Pilots / Captains (7+ years): ₹6 – ₹10 lakhs per month or even higher.

Selection Process for Commercial Pilot

Start by enrolling in a DGCA approved flying school and completing at least 200 hours of flying training.
