A 2D animator designs moving images for entertainment media such as games, television, or advertisements, overseeing every step from storyboarding, character sketching, and animating through computer programs like Adobe After Effects or Toon Boom Harmony, making sure to include the necessary motion and emotion that suit the vision, and working with other members of the creative team to ensure the deadline and other project requirements are fulfilled.
Necessary Skills and Tools:
Visual Storytelling: Exceptional timing, perspective, rhythm, and the art of performance.
Software Skills: Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro) or Toon Boom Harmony.
Flexibility: Capable of learning new software and adhering to various style guides.
Collaboration: Strong communication skills and the capacity to give and accept feedback.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize & Design:
You will create storyboards, story characters, backgrounds, and visual styles.
- Animate: You will make drawings come to life with fluid motion and timing, creating performances for characters and objects.
- Collaborate:
You will work with directors, writers, and other artists to create visuals to go along with the narrative.
- Technical Execution: You will use varying software to create frames and do in-between (also known as tweeting), to digitize and color the drawings as well as adding special effects.

You will combine the visuals with the audio, music, and voiceover.
- Polish: You will do file management, clean up, and do postproduction enhancement of the animations.
