Responsibilities of the RRB
The Goods Guard has the following responsibilities:
Train Safety & Supervision
Checking the brakes, weighing the cargo, checking the documents, and supervising the wagons (Vehicle Guidance).
Checking the couplings and brakes before the journey starts.
Coordinating with the loco crew and station masters to ensure the safety of all wagons in the goods train.
Communication & Signals
Communicating with the Loco Pilot, station masters, and railway control to ensure safety and permissible movements.
Providing communication for signals, speed restrictions, and emergency instructions.
Documentation & Reporting
Signing and preparing the Brake Power Certificates (BPC) after conducting the safety checks.
Keeping the records for combined train reports, logs of the arrival, departure, and any reports for delays or irregularities.
Emergency Response
Branched out with the following:
Addressing issues of brakes, cargo, or communication.
Working in case of derailment or accidents.
Other Tasks
If needed, overseeing the loading and unloading.
Monitoring the adherence to the operating rules and safety regulations of the railway
